Submission Holds
Overview
Holds can be placed on a submission to pause processing, typically because required information is missing or incorrect and must be resolved before the agency can continue review.
All active and past holds appear on the Holds tab of the Submission Details page.
Adding a Submission Hold
Holds can be added to a submission manually or through a correction request.
Manually Adding or Editing a Hold
On the Holds tab, click the Add Hold button to add a new hold or click on an existing hold to edit it.
The following fields appear on the Add Hold and Edit Hold pages.

Hold Start Date | The date the hold begins. | This cannot be a future date. |

Automatically Adding a Hold via a Correction Request
When a correction request is created for a submission, the system automatically creates a hold using the current date as the start date and “Corrections Request” as the reason. Multiple correction requests result in multiple holds, which may overlap. For more information, see the Submission Correction Request Process page.
Ending a Hold
A hold ends when an end date is entered in the Hold End Date field. This can be entered manually—for example, if the submitter requested a hold—or automatically when the related correction request is closed.
When the hold end date passes, the hold status automatically changes to Inactive.
Impact on Submission Statuses
If a submission has any active holds, its status is automatically set to On Hold. By default, once all holds end, the submission status updates to In Process.
If multiple holds overlap, the submission status does not return to In Process until the latest end date has passed.
For information about overriding the default behavior, see the “Configuring a Form to Remain On Hold After Corrections are Approved” section of the Submission Correction Request Process page.
Impact on Processing Due Dates
If the Hold duration affects Processing Deadline Date checkbox is selected on the Dates and Deadlines tab of the corresponding Form Details page, a hold pauses processing and extends the processing due date by the exact number of days the hold is active. The form designer can choose to count calendar or business days.
Because an end date is required to calculate a hold’s duration, the submission’s Processing Due Date remains blank while the hold is active.
For more information, see the Form Details - Dates and Deadlines Tab and Viewing and Editing Submission Details pages.
Impact on Task Due Dates
If workflow tasks associated with a submission are in Unstarted or In Process status when a hold is created, their due dates are extended by the exact number of days the hold is active. Tasks that were due before the hold are not affected.
