nSPECT

Overview

nSPECT is a mobile inspection application designed by and for field inspectors. It was built to serve the needs of both small organizations and enterprise-scale operations, integrating with corporate-scale data systems. nSPECT is a part of Windsor’s nVIRO product suite.

nSPECT is available as a desktop web application and as a mobile app from the Apple App Store (iOS), the Google Play Store (Android), and the Microsoft Store (Windows). Both the desktop and mobile versions offer similar functionality, although the mobile app provides a more streamlined user interface.

nSPECT also offers an offline mode, allowing inspections to be performed without an internet connection. Data is saved locally as it is entered and automatically synchronized with the central nSPECT server once connectivity is restored.

Key Capabilities

nSPECT provides a comprehensive set of tools and features to support inspection management, from form design and preparation through field execution and post-inspection processing.

Inspection Form Design

nSPECT allows users to define and publish inspection forms without IT support. Each form may contain multiple sections, and each section may contain one or more controls. Sections can be configured as single-instance or as repeating sections, allowing users to capture the same type of data for multiple inspection items.

Through its integration with nFORM, nSPECT supports a rich set of controls for building custom forms, including:

  • Form- and section-level instructions

  • Entry fields

    • Single-line text

    • Number

    • Date

    • Time

    • URL

    • Yes, No, and N/A selection

    • Single-select (dropdown or radio buttons)

    • Multi-select (dropdown or check boxes)

    • Multi-line text (paragraph)

  • Specialized controls

    • Table or Advanced Table (containing multiple entry fields per row)

    • GPS coordinates

    • Signature/drawing

Form controls can be designed to automatically mark certain answers as violations or to create violation records in nVIRO based on specific responses.

Once published, forms are available to users across the organization.

Inspection Preparation

nSPECT streamlines inspection preparation tasks to reduce administrative overhead and help inspectors focus on conducting inspections.

  • Schedule inspections: Inspections can be scheduled from the office or the field. They may be added directly in nSPECT or scheduled in nVIRO and synchronized to nSPECT. One or more forms can be added to support different inspection types.

  • Review scheduled inspections: Inspectors can view scheduled inspections and associated forms before going into the field.

  • Pre-fill inspection data: Inspection forms can be configured to pull data from nVIRO or other systems to pre-populate fields, reducing manual data entry and allowing inspectors to more easily verify site data.

Inspection Execution

nSPECT supports inspection execution by enabling inspectors to complete forms, record observations, and document violations efficiently while in the field.

  • Complete inspection forms and annotations: Inspectors complete forms by answering and annotating controls. Depending on the form’s design, controls may support:

    • Automatic marking of violations based on responses

    • Manual marking of violations

    • Adding comments

    • Attaching photos

    • Recording GPS locations

  • Navigate between forms and sections: Forms are automatically downloaded to mobile inspection devices and are immediately ready for use in the field. Navigation between forms and form sections is fast and intuitive.

Post-Inspection Processing

After inspections are completed, nSPECT can be used to review, edit, and finalize data, generate reports, and seamlessly integrate results with central data systems.

  • View and edit data quickly: Upon returning from the field, inspection data are automatically synchronized with the nSPECT server. Since nSPECT functions similarly on desktop and mobile, inspectors can quickly review and refine their entries.

  • Generate inspection reports: Inspection results can be generated as formatted reports. When needed, non-compliance notices can also be generated with just a few clicks.

  • Eliminate dual data entry: Inspection data and reports can be automatically pushed to nVIRO or other compliance and enforcement systems, allowing inspections and violations to be recorded directly and reducing the risk of data entry errors.
