Creating External User Accounts (Regulated Community)

Creating External User Accounts (Regulated Community)

Overview

External user accounts are created through self-registration by members of the regulated community.

Though self-registration is a necessary first step, external users must also be associated with a specific site to perform tasks within the system. For more information, see the Associating External Users with Sites page.

Creating External User Accounts

Self-registration steps may vary if nVIRO is configured to use third-party authentication and account management services.

To create an external user account as a member of the regulated community:

  • Click the Create an account link on the nVIRO home page or the Register now link on the sign in page. Both links open the Create an Account page.

  • Complete relevant fields.

    • The email address but be unique within the system. If the address already exists, the system will prompt the user to either sign in or reset their password.

    • By default, passwords must include at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number, one special character, and be at least eight characters long. These requirements are configurable and may vary by agency.

    • By default, passwords expire after 90 days, though this can also be customized.

  • Click the Create Account button. A verification email is sent to the email address provided and should arrive within a few minutes. If it does not appear in your inbox, check your Spam or Junk folder. If it’s still not found, contact your IT department to determine whether the message is being blocked by a network firewall.

  • Click the verification link in the email body or copy and paste it into your browser. This activates the account, and a login dialog appears.

Resending Verification Emails

If an external user creates an account but does not click the verification link before it expires, an internal user with appropriate permissions must send a new verification email.

To resend a verification email:

  • Navigate to Admin > Users.

  • Search for the user by their name or email address.

  • Once the user is located, click the vertical ellipses menu to the right of the user row and select the Resend Verification option.
