Feature Types
Overview
Feature types can be added and configured in nVIRO or used to automatically categorize features on a site within nFORM.
Managing Feature Types in nVIRO
To view or modify feature types, navigate to Admin > Lookups > Feature Types.
Use the sort buttons or filters at the top of each column to locate a specific feature type. When using a filter, the list dynamically updates to display all feature types that match the entered value.
Clicking the row for a feature displays the Edit Feature Type page, where feature details can be edited.
The table below describes the fields on this page.
Field | Description | Notes |
---|---|---|
Lookup Code | The unique identifier for the feature type. | The code must be uppercase and include no spaces. It can include numbers. Once this code is added, it cannot be changed. |
Lookup Description | A text description of the feature type. | This description is shown on the site map for all features of this type. |
Program Areas | The program area(s) to which features of this type apply. | Select program areas only if the feature type should be limited to specific program areas. |
Site Plan Label | A three-character descriptive label to identify the feature type. | The label must be uppercase. |
Site Plan Label Color | A color (hex value) used to identify the feature type. |
|
Feature Identifier Maximum Length | The maximum allowed length for feature identifiers. | This field is hidden if a feature identifier auto-numbering scheme is entered in the next field. |
Feature Identifier Auto-Numbering Scheme | The numbering scheme the system uses when automatically assigning feature identifiers. | If a feature type control is configured on a form, it will automatically number features using the assigned prefix scheme. Feature identifiers are automatically created as features are added to a site plan or as sections are added to a properly configured form. This field is hidden if no feature prefixes have been added to the database lookup table. These must be set up directly in the database. If another control label in the same section resembles the feature type name, the system may attempt to auto-number using that feature type’s prefix. For example, a control labeled “Other” may unintentionally pick up the auto-numbering of the other feature type. |
Features of this Type are Visible to External Users | The option to show or hide features of this type from the external user view of site plans and in dedicated external-facing instances of nSITE Explorer (if configured). | This setting has no effect on the internal user view of the site plan or nSITE Explorer. |
ICIS Permitted Feature Type Code | The EPA code for the feature (for ICIS-NPDES or ICIS-Air data flows, if applicable). |
