Splitting or Merging a Site

Overview

On some occasions, internal users might need to split a single site into two separate sites, or to move certain items from one site to another. Conversely, it might sometimes be necessary to combine two sites into a single site, such as when duplicate sites have been created in error. All of these functions can be performed using the Split/Merge button on the Site Details page.

Splitting a Site

To move a permit or compliance action to another site, visit the Site Details page of the site you want to split. Click the Split/Merge button. This button is only visible to users with appropriate permissions:

The Split/Merge Site panel is displayed. Begin to type the name of the target site, and a list of matching sites is displayed in the dropdown list. (If you want to move items to a brand new site, you’ll need to create the site first so that it will appear as a matching option in the dropdown list.) Select the target site. If moving only selected permits or compliance actions to another site, choose Selected Compliance Actions/Permits in the Items to Move field. The available permits and compliance actions are displayed. Use the checkboxes to select the items to move and then click Continue. A confirmation dialog box is displayed; click Yes to proceed. The selected items are moved to the target site.

Merging Sites

To merge all items to another site, follow the process above, this time selecting Everything (Merge) in the Items to Move field.

Note: Only sites of the same site type (person, site, organization) will be able to be merged together. For details on Site Type, click here.

Merged Site Results

When sites have been merged the following occurs:

  • All items are moved to the target site, and the status of the original site is set to Inactive.

  • Audit History is added to affected records (e.g., Site, Permit, Evaluation, Submission, Project).

  • A Site Alternative Name is added to the new site with the old site's name as "Historical".

  • A Site Relationship is added between the two sites with a relationship type of "Merged From/To".
